Not going to lie, the way this volume was going I was ready to stop reading this series. I like the story mostly being told through the parent’s POV, since in many ways this series is about examining heteronormativity and amatonormativity and how the parents are (unintentionally and sometimes harmfully) influencing and projecting onto their kids in support of those norms. However, it was starting to feel like Mrs. Aoyama’s inner dialogue was projecting so much onto Hiroki, making her own son’s life into her personal BL drama. I was ready to let this series go, but at the end of the book we finally got a chapter from Daigo’s POV. That drew me back in! Not my favorite volume so far but I will continue on!

I don't think this is for me.

I've said this in every review: it's extremely cute but it's so slow and repetitive, and my general cynicism means I suspect it'll be another five or ten books before something changes.

And as much as I like the titular son, because it's told from the point of view of the mother there's so much speculation on what he's going through, she tends to assume the best but it's all clearly taking its toll on the little gay boy.

I might come back to this at some point but the glacial progression isn't working for me.
