[reread] i've only read this book/series once before, like 7/8 years ago, and i remember loving it but i forgot how actually amazing it is. love the greek god stuff, love all the characters. a new fave i'm sure i'm going to reread many times.

I've read this book quite a few times by now because for some reason it's become a comfort book. Nevertheless, I also recognize more and more problematic things the more often I read it and I don't want to pretend that this is a picture-perfect book by not mentioning it just because I love it so much. I love Helen and Claire's friendship, although I always dislike the "lack of communication" trope. I love Helen and Lucas although the incest plotline is absolutely unnecessary (very Shadowhunters if you know what I mean) because I simply think it's never necessary to add one. It's also quite filled with tropes but that is to be expected from an early 2010s book :D I am also a huge Greek mythology fan, which doesn't mean that I don't recognize some of the liberties that were taken in the book. I am a fan of the huge family dynamic, of the dynamic between Helen and her dad and how happy I was when he finally got to be with Kate.
This is just a ramble which I might expand on at some point but yeah :D

Jesses, Maria und Josef war dieses Buch schlecht ! Normalerweise mag ich ja Fantasy-Büchern für Teenager, aber des tat wirklich weh. Des größte Problem des Hauptcharakters ist, dass sie zu perfekt ist. Und dann auch die ganze "Schlagfertigkeit, einfach nur zum Kotzen. Der Fremdscham den ich durchmachen musste. Die Autorin ist im Vergleich zu anderen Jugendbuchautor*innen auch echt schlecht. Und dann auch noch der extrem stereotypsierte asiatische Charakter. Warum?! Warum musste sie uns das antun. Wenn ihr euch wirklich für Mythologie interessiert oder schon etwas darüber wisst, dann ist dieses Buch nichts für euch!
