I wanted to like this book more than I did, I'm a sucker for animal-human-rescue stories! And I'm happy that the author has successfully changed his life for the better. But the tone was off in several ways. There was a certain lack of charity on the part of the author - always talking about "hippies" and going into detail about how other people offended or hurt him, without any apparent self-awareness about his own behavior. I never got a sense of Peety's personality, really, or a chance to understand how Peety enjoyed his new life. And the book was extremely linear - this happened, then this happened, then this happened, etc. There was just no joy, no life to it. I wish I had better things to say about this book, but I would not recommend it as a fun or educational read.

Loved this book - so inspiring. It's an amazing true story of how a rescue dog transformed a man's life, but it's also the story of how a doctor helped a man come back from the brink of death. Couldn't put it down - made me think about my own habits and health.
Dogs rescue us far more than we rescue them and this book illustrates that so clearly. Loved Eric's spirit and enthusiasm, but truly appreciated his honesty in sharing even the not-pretty parts of his journey.

Agree with others: written well, easy to read. Entertaining, simple, emotional. Good for a light, inspirational read.
For me personally, I could have done withoit the details of his dating adventures, but I realize it was just part of the journey.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Walking with Peety was an inspiring story of an obese man on the brink of suicide when a nutritionist suggested he adopt a shelter dog and begin walking 30 minutes twice a day and adopt a plant-based diet. Eric became healthy within a year, losing all his excess weight and no longer had diabetes or other health problems. This was a heart-warming story that hooked me right away. The only drawback is the author did get quite preachy about a vegan lifestyle. This book makes me proud to have adopted a shelter dog who was in need of a home.

Really cute and inspirational journey of a man and how a dog rescued him.
I was a little hesitant at first when Eric started mention his fervor reading the Bible cover to cover, thinking that I've stumbled upon a religious propaganda novel but nah, it was just part of his journey.
Anyway, the book was written well, easy to read. Entertaining, simple, emotional. I also loved that it was non-judgmental. Good for a light, inspirational read.
And Eric is definitely passionate about his lifestyle! I was inspired to borrow some vegan cookbooks from my local library. Further research required but I don't think I could ever be as intense as he is.

I wish there was less about the nutrition part of this but nonetheless a good dog story is going to get 4.5 rounded up to 5 stars for me.
