First things first, this book was about 200 pages too long. Megan Quinn has been a very hit or miss author for me, and I got immediate bad vibes the second I saw the prologue and realized she wrote out “*gulp*.” This isn’t tumblr. Please don’t. Unfortunately for me I read the rest of the 500 pages after the prologue, and this style of writing continued.
Overall I enjoyed the build up from annoyed coworkers to friends, even though the secondhand embarrassment went absolutely through the roof a few times. I mean, really, the whole accidental face sitting situation was prison worthy, but then when she thought he was being stabbed in his bedroom!? I would scrub it from my brain if I could.
JP grew to be a relatively likable character, but don’t get me wrong there were multiple times at the beginning of their not friendly relationship where he was just a prick for no reason. However, Kelsey’s character was a huge disappointment. The moment their relationship started to take off Kelsey became the most annoyingly insecure woman.I mean the entire third act break up was because he had a really bad night, couldn’t tell her about it because she was drunk, and then didn’t sleep with her because he was preoccupied with the aforementioned bad thing and her drunkness. It took her WEEKS to get over him not being in the mood one night. That is absolutely wild. Especially after the first like 300 pages of the book was spent developing their non sexual relationship.
