Pretty good audiobook. Narrator did a decent job. Her voice is a little slow but since it is set in the South that works. She did a good job differentiating among characters but the voices weren't always what I expected of that character. Characters were well developed. Jess is a troubled FBI profiler whose life is falling apart because she blew a big case. She returns home to Birmingham AL to help her old love solve a case of missing young women, one of whom is his stepdaughter. That premise isn't so unique but the rest of the story was. The case was solved but it left me wanting more of Jess and Dan.

It has been a long time since I have read a book that kept me on the edge of my chair like this one.

Ms. Webb you have got yourself a new fan!

This is the first book of Ms. Webb's that I have read and it will certainly not be the last. Her writing style is gripping and concise and always leaves the reader wondering what is really happening as the writing gives the illusion that they are not being shown the whole picture until they reach the end.

Ms. Webb has created charcters that have traits that all can realte to:
- Dan - loyal
- Jess - determined
- Chet - honest
- Lori - ambitious

These four characters mixed together bring the main storyline to life with their personal lives showing their traits and how they are responsible for their current situations.

Ms. Webb successful mixes the personal lives of the characters and the investigation of the missing girls seamlessly.

The ending was not what I saw coming, but thankfully I already had the second book and was not left to long in my despair.

I recommend to all bookworms that you must read this!

Complete and total suspense from start to finish, this book will have you hooked. Debra Webb has begun the first of her Faces of Evil series with a nail biting story of kidnapping, murder, psychotic parents, coming to terms with your past and a future sure to keep you up at night. Jess is an ambitious, focused profiler, and there is nothing more exciting than getting in the head of crazy person and trying to figure out who it is and the motive behind the crime. Dan is Jess's past, and the chief of police where the crimes are being investigated. Lori and Chet, besides being incredibly lovable together are integral to the investigation as well.

The investigation of 5 missing young adult women is what brings Jess to the case, but there is a back story for Jess that continually haunts her through this book, becomes front and center and has book 2, Impulse waiting to be read.

Carol Schneider is the narrator for this suspense thriller. I enjoyed her narration, though at times her pace is a little slow. Her voices are great and easy to differentiate between characters. I look forward to the next in the series.

Obsession was a good book. Not great, but definitely a nice intro into the series. I enjoyed how it stuck mainly to the crime portion of the novel, but made it clear (hopefully) that we'll see a little romance for some of the characters going forward. I liked Dan - and I desperately want to meet his mother in future books. She sounds like one of those people you love to hate.

What I had trouble with was Jess. I'm not going to say I hated her...but I couldn't quite like her either. I appreciated her desperation and insecurity - and I thought that was well done considering her recent past problems. I even liked how she disobeyed orders towards the end. But then she'd sneak in something really irritating like how all her coworkers were out to get her/she can't trust anyone blah, blah, blah. And hey, maybe they were...but since we didn't see any of that it, it felt out of place. You know that person who thinks everyone is talking about them (as if people don't have their own lives and problems)? That's Jess.

Still the book was pretty good. I really liked Lori. And I'm interested to see how it plays out with the Player. 3.5 stars.

I have had this book and the next couple books in this series on my long to be read pile for a while. I have been wanting to read it and see what the series was all about. I finally picked up the first book. Yep, this book is right up my really alley. A good story line and characters.

Although, I did find Special Agent Jess to be a little weak. I thought she would have been stronger with her skills in solving cases. Yet, I found myself more drawn to the case itself then her solving it. I am giving her a tiny break as this is the first book in the series and I did find her for the most part good. A fast pace read that did keep my attention. I am now interested to see how book two goes and if Jess has grown from this book.

It was an easy read. I guessed early on who the "bad guy" was so that was a little disappointing.

Loved the story line thought out all of the series. The characters are well developed and real. The books follow Jess in her professional and personal life, just like in reality, they are very intertwined.

I binge read them one after the other starting with Silence and continuing through to the Wedding.

My personal dislikes about this series:
- too much romance (just not my cup of tea, I'm into the murder, mystery and suspense)
- too much repetition towards the end of the series. (I get the need to help people who may have picked up the series mid way through, but since I read them in succession I grew tired of reading the characters back story again and again)

On the verge of losing her job and her marriage, Jess returns home to Birmingham, Alabama when an old beau, Dan Burnett, request her assistance on a case involving the disappearance of several young women. As Jess immerses herself in the case, a menacing specter from her past raises its ugly head and places those she cares about in serious danger...

A well-crafted if predictable plot with several similarities to Alex Kava’s A Perfect Evil including a female FBI profiler who has a past with a serial killer and a relationship with the chief of police. That said, the investigative aspects of the case have an authentic feel, the motivation behind the crime is original albeit rather disturbing, and the climax and resolution are exciting.

The characters are also very well developed. Jess is a strong and intelligent heroine, but it is difficult to truly empathize with her given that she often comes across as arrogant and dismissive. She is also in dire need of some sensitivity training. Dan gives the impression of being something of a ladies man although it is rather obvious that the women in his life are surrogates for the one who got away. While there is real potential in their slowly simmering second chances romance, it is the relationship between Lori and Chet that really grabs the reader.

While the primary storyline is resolved by the end, the book does end on a cliffhanger of sorts (I will be seriously annoyed if

) and I am eager to continue with the series.

Obsession is an amazing read: it'll take you on a suspenseful and chilling ride!

I've always liked the crime genre, whether it's in books, movies or TV shows. It's also no secret that I love Criminal Minds. Nothing can ever compare to the awesomeness that is Criminal Minds and the BAU. But Obsession is the first book about crime/serial killers that I enjoyed almost as much.

The characters are all interesting, and the plot: Jesus, I did not see that coming!
One of the great things about this book is that both the good and evil sides are well developed. Often, they would have a strong detective and a criminal who just wasn't developed wel enough, or vice versa. But in this book, both the police force and the criminals were well developed. (Spears just gave me the chills. BRR.)

Definitely recommend this book.
