This one is sort of outside my usual wheelhouse, but it was the novel voted for this month in the book club I’m a part of with my coworkers. It is well written, I can give it that. The best description I can give is this: it is like reading a soap opera. A somewhat boring soap opera. It has scandals and family drama, that’s for sure, but not a whole lot else. Not many of the characters were particularly likeable, and I personally had a difficult time relating to a lot of the issues they faced but that might be a personal problem, I acknowledge that. If you’re looking for a read that won’t really challenge you, almost every character is insufferably horny, and has just enough intrigue to get you at least somewhat invested, The Most Fun We Ever had might just deliver.

Raising four daughters (Wendy, Violet, Liza, and Grace) kept Marilyn and David on their toes and surrounded by chaos for years, yet they never fell out of love. Their love became the standard for their daughters, who have spent their adult lives trying to meet these incredibly high standards. As such, they all feel they have failed in one way or another. The girls take these feelings out on one another and their parents, pushing apart this once close family. That is until Jonah comes along… He will challenge the family in ways they’ve never been challenged before, but also bring them together like never before as he forces important family conversations to happen.


I’m not going to lie, I struggled through this book…. At 600+ pages, it was a big one and I don’t think it needed to be that long. While the family drama felt very plausible and realistic, the cattiness among the sisters made them all unlikeable to me. The only character I really cared for was Jonah… Additionally, it didn’t feel like there was a proper story arc. In my opinion, the premise had potential but the execution wasn’t there.

On the whole, a good book. 
It took a long time to get going, it didn’t really grasp me until maybe the last 200 pages, and was too long a book overall. 
The characters were all interesting and different to each other, and I enjoyed the back and forth timelines. 
I stronger central plot line would have been nice.
