The Most Fun We Ever Had by Claire Lombardo

⭐️⭐️ (2/5)

Genre: Contemporary Fiction

About 625 pages

Raising four daughters (Wendy, Violet, Liza, and Grace) kept Marilyn and David on their toes and surrounded by chaos for years, yet they never fell out of love. Their love became the standard for their daughters, who have spent their adult lives trying to meet these incredibly high standards. As such, they all feel they have failed in one way or another. The girls take these feelings out on one another and their parents, pushing apart this once close family. That is until Jonah comes along… He will challenge the family in ways they’ve never been challenged before, but also bring them together like never before as he forces important family conversations to happen.

I’m not going to lie, I struggled through this book…. At 600+ pages, it was a big one and I don’t think it needed to be that long. While the family drama felt very plausible and realistic, the cattiness among the sisters made them all unlikeable to me. The only character I really cared for was Jonah… Additionally, it didn’t feel like there was a proper story arc. In my opinion, the premise had potential but the execution wasn’t there.

Favorite Quote: “The world as it was would almost never be the world you wanted it to be, and there was a certain pleasure in finding your space in the schism.”

it‘s a strange feeling to have as a kid, like you’re responsible for your parents’ happiness. not that you’re the cause of it, but instead that there’s some obligation on your part to ensure it. i didn’t really realise until recently that that wasn’t normal.
ugh i wish i had sisters
