I read this aloud to my 10yo daughter who loves wolves, and I plan to also read the other two in the series, but the book hasn’t aged well. A white woman researched wolves and the Native peoples of Alaska, and tried to write as if she truly understood being caught between worlds like Native children. We did learn a lot about wolves and wolf behavior, plus the weather of Northern Alaska, but it had uncomfortable undertones about Native culture.
Moderate: Animal death, Blood, Cultural appropriation, and Colonisation
Minor: Sexual assault

I read this book while supervising an elementary classroom. Honestly, it feels a bit heavy for young ages. Overall, decent writing but the plot was under-developed and left lots to be desired.
