this was really good and honestly pretty relatable minus the random bouts of misogyny, which is to be expected when you’re reading dazai’s books. I’m really surprised that he was able to capture the experience of being a teenage girl in a way that I could relate to. This is the second book by osamu dazai I’ve read and honestly I think this may be a little more relatable than no longer human and easier to get into, so I’d recommend it to people who are looking to get into him :) the main reason this is only 3.75 stars is because the misogyny at one specific point of the book took me out of the experience, but overall it isn’t too bad since overall it’s limited to a few paragraphs. The main character would loveee mitski’s lush album she’s so real.

If you were to point to a faraway mountain and say, If you can make it there, it's a pretty good view, I'd see that there's not an ounce of untruth to what you tell us. But when you say, Well, bear with it just a little longer, if you can make it to the top of that mountain, you'll have done it, you are ignoring the fact that we are suffering from a terrible stomachache—right now. Surely one of you is mistaken to let us go on this way. You're the one who is to blame.

Very lovely indeed. Osamu dazais writing is as beautiful as ever. I read this in a sitting, it’s short but I feel that the book uses that too it’s advantage. The main character is such that you get so mad at that you want to nock some sense into that little weed fr fr. Girl like stop being weird. ‘Cause I was losing it when she barked.
