A story line that follows 5-ish real characters in their journeys prior, during, and after Hurricane Katrina.

I enjoyed the diversity in the stories and how the author not holding back about details on the gruesome scenes that were found in New Orleans.

I highly recommend the read for any visual learners.

I picked this up after noticing a review of it on SMBC. It's a pretty neat way to learn a little bit about the hurricane and how it touched a few lives, although the format does not make a great deal of depth possible.

The characters were based on real people and they were represented in an authentic way. Colors, layout, and organization were meaningful and powerful.

This was a really quick read (less than 45 minutes, I'm no good at lingering on the images in graphic novels), and didn't go as in depth as I wanted it to (the time jumps felt really sudden), but it was a good overview of Katrina's effect on real people.

Only the 2nd graphic novel I've ever read, but I'm coming to appreciate the medium, I think.

Wow - I was in high school when Hurricane Katrina hit, but being all the way up in hurricane-less Ohio, it never struck close to home. After reading this, I realized that my thoughts at the time were similar to most of the New Orleans residents before Katrina hit: it's just another hurricane.

While not a comprehensive all inclusive account of what happened, the true to life personal stories that Neufeld follows and represents here are what really matter and what really hit home. Moving, fortifying apartments to stay, the failures of external sources to appropriately help those who stayed or were stuck, and at the end of the day, the sheer destruction that resulted from the waters.

Perhaps what was most impacting was the continued pride in their city. New Orleans was everybody's home and life and pride and joy. After reading this, it makes a little more sense to me now why it was so difficult for the citizens to leave the city or stay away after the destruction.
