Another entertaining murder-mystery set in early 1900's. It is fun to read about this historical time from a female perspective.

Nice read, but very unrealistic that a working class woman in 1901, who should know very well that no job means starvation, would be so cavalier and picky about finding a job. And a farm girl of that era would certainly have known how to sew shirt sleeves and not get fired for sewing them inside out. But of course Molly has a mind above such pedestrian concerns.

I enjoyed the world of New York in the early 1900s, and going around with Molly as she searches for Paddy's killer. I did guess who it was, although I was misled for a bit.
What I didn't get was the how. How this seemingly minor character would be the murderer. Now I see, and it was a huge event in history. I love the intertwining of the truth with fiction, and Molly's cleverness in searching for the killer.
The romance is a bit lacking, especially since Daniel's engaged, but it's nice. I love all the characters from the Village, and the old woman Molly was the companion for, for a few days anyway.
Looking forward to reading the next book.

I enjoyed the first book in this series much more than this second book. The story meandered around and then ended abruptly.

Great narration in this audiobook once again. Jaded teens and older family members were ready for this 2nd installment and very pleased that the action took off and Molly becomes a detective. A lot of googling happening to see which parts were real and which fiction. A great group read/listen.

A delightful cozy mystery by Rhys Bowen. Molly's new adventure after settling into New York. Solving a crime of her murdered employer turns out to be an adventure to put a halt to the assassination of President McKinley.
A cute, fun and quick read. I can't wait to read the rest of the books from the series.

I read the first book because I was looking for something different from what I usually read. I was hopeful. I LOVE slow moving romance, the built up of tension and when they finally get together? There is no better satisfaction. I had read the synopsis of the first 3 books and in doing so I thought for sure I'd found a new series to keep me busy for a week or so. Sadly I don't think I'll be reading the next book in the series.
In the first book, you don't get a realistic relationship between Molly and Daniel. They hardly have any interaction in the first book, and even less in this one, which is highly disappointing. You start this book with Molly believing Daniel has intentions of proposing to her soon. So we miss a huge part of their growing relationship but when the inevitable break up happens, I didn't care cause I wasn't invested in them as a couple. The author missed the boat.
This happens so soon in the book that we hardly see page time with Daniel. We meet a lot of different characters that get far more facetime then Daniel. I find it hard because in the first book, we (kinda) start caring for Seamus, Michael and the kids. In this book they are there, in the distant background.
And Molly actually has a horseshoe up her ass, if you think about it. It's unrealistic. I may read the next book in the future but for now, I need to move on.

I appreciate how the author includes a quick overview of what happened in the previous novel. Again, it is another great one for listening to while enjoying other activities. I find I am able to enjoy and remember what has happened while doing other things like knitting or crocheting. A digestible and enjoyable read.
