This is one of the must reads for understanding IFS and applying it to your life.

This book is an excellent overview for clients and practitioners new to the model. It still includes gender binary language as well as fatphobic rhetoric around eating, and I still recommend it to many.

Reading this was difficult, for a host of reasons, and I had to step back from it several times as I worked my way through. Ultimately glad I did. Nice to have a background for some of the things I’m working with in therapy.

Easy to read & very understandable. Good book for people in the treatment field, and for clients looking to learn about IFS and how it works.

This was my second time through this book, this time with friends in a “self help book club”. The first time was with a therapist. Both times, this book has proven to be invaluable to my sanity and critical to my understanding of myself. I cant recommend this methodology enough! (If you’ve seen the movie Inside Out you’re already familiar with IFS!) I do think the book is structured weirdly, and would have swapped the placement of chapters 2 and 4. And I dont necessarily think someone should work through this without someone who is familiar with the methodology. I will likely work through it again in a couple years.

Most relatable and accessible therapy book I have ever read. Instead of addressing the behavior that has come out of past experiences, this book helps to untangle and rewire the brain and relax some of the protective barriers to becoming our best selves.

Insightful. I have always kept a close eye on my internal world, and much of the information in this book aligns closely with my experiences. I would encourage anyone not to take my word for it, and to try to find the answer within themselves. Often, we will find that our best and most insightful ideas have been both expressed and misunderstood by countless others. In order to understand ourselves, we have to find our own way to the things we already know.
