This was one of the earlier manga series I read. I like the characters and the concept of the story. The artwork is beautiful, but drives me crazy sometimes - it's way too busy to be done in black & white. You can hardly tell what's going on sometimes.

The first book in the sequel trilogy of Magic Knight Rayearth. It was exciting to join characters from the first book as they try to navigate the heartbreak that ended the first trilogy. The three girls, Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu, aren't sure how they're supposed to feel about what they did as magic knights - but when they're summoned back to Cephiro, they are quick to take on the responsibility of protecting the kingdom once more.
The new characters are fun, but most seem to exist purely to create conflict and not because they have much of their own motivation. Still, the core three remain wonderful characters, full of hope and promise.
