Who would have thought? Bought this book more than a decade ago in Coserow and though "I am a linguist, I will read this small book during this vacation" and it turned out as so demanding, that I constantly moved it back on my reading list. That is, until now. The story itself presents itself somewhat deceptively as a historical chronicle - and is therefore neither nice to read nor particularly interesting (except you crave for reports written in the difficult-to-bear style of the time of medieval witch processes). I found the appendix much more interesting, in which the unusual story of the novel was described. To be honest, I have only read the very detailed biographical part in passing. Nevertheless, both together made this book quite entertaining and educational.

It was interesting to read this from a historical perspective, and to trace all the places I've been in Usedom. It's a very 19th century style, but not a bad example of its form. It's hard to develop a character much when she's the perfect incarnation of an angel, but I still enjoyed the story for what it was.

Der Vorläufer der bekannten "Bernsteinhexe", die ich aber zugegebenermassen nicht gelesen habe. Laut des informativen Nachwortes ist aber schon sehr viel in dieser Novelle enthalten, sodass ich nicht das Gefühl habe, den längeren Text noch lesen zu müssen.

Mich hat das Werk oftmals sehr berührt und obwohl nur kurz, war ich emotional sehr in der Geschichte drin. Meinhold, der die Sprache der Handlungszeit ausgezeichnet kopiert, kreiert eine Handlung mit typischem Muster, sodass man sich als Leser stets gut positionieren kann.

Dieser Text hat alles, was auch ein "ganzes Buch" in sich vereint, sodass ich wirklich nichts vermisste. Eigentlich ist es genau richtig so. Mehr hätte ich vielleicht sogar langweilig gefunden.

Meine Ausgabe hat, wie bereits erwähnt, noch ein aufschlussreiches Nachwort, das auch die Entstehungsgeschichte der Novelle erzählt. Das wiederum ist eine Geschichte ganz für sich, weshalb ich es allen Interessierten nur empfehlen kann, sich auch die Hintergrundinformationen anzusehen.
