Comics anthologies must be treated in much the same way as any other anthology, in my opinion; whether it be short stories, poetry, or an essay collection, they're all united by the way that you will have to deal with both the worst most boring piece of writing you've ever seen immediately followed by something mind-blowingly fantastic. There were some stories in this that I really loved - I came here for Sun-Spider and I really loved her story, and Web-Weaver was totally fantastic and unexpected, but by far my favourite story was the Spider-Ham/Pete Spiderman (NO HYPHEN) one. It was absolutely hilarious in a laugh-out-loud way, had fun meta commentary on comics and spider-man in particular, and was just awesome all round. My least favourites were ones I just didn't get - either because they were so short they felt totally pointless (Spider-man India's basically just introduced him and then. Ended?! Weird), or relied on just too much information I didn't have. It's definitely a tricky balance to fit 3-4 stories within one comic issue, and sometimes that balance just doesn't work. Stories range in length from 1 to almost 20 pages which is obviously going to produce inconsistency, and I think the levels of care are quite different. One of the ways I think anthologies do really shine is the ability to see loads of different cool art styles to represent the different iterations of spider-man. The art style of Spinstress was especially cool because it really nailed the Disney-princess type vibe. All in all, I really enjoyed this, especially as it's literally the only solo appearance of my girl Sun-Spider, but there is definite room for improvement and OH DID I MENTION?? THAT IT DOESN'T END?? Ohhh yeah, in typical comics style, like half of these end in ominous links the Shathra (sp?), the Wasp Queen (?), and so Madame Web shows up and is like "Quick! We're going to need your help!". So of course, I'm like, Oh Wow! When is this all going to go down! The answer is in the upcoming comics series End of the Spider-verse! So yayyyy I have to read another different comic to find out what the actual point of all of this was!! Which is just sort of infuriating. The stories would've been honestly great as stand-alones, but instead they were all awkwardly mushed together for an event I'm going to have to also read now :(
