This book was really good. A little slow in the beginning but I loved these characters. It was nothing super original about this story but it was written well and I am interested in another character so I'll be reading that one soon.

DNF - characters who ignore being told to stay away from the other character and don't act like a semi-normal person just isn't the vibe for me, personally.

Rex Gunner has been left behind so many times that when his new neighbor moves in, he's angry that its a beautiful woman. A woman that clicks with his young daughter-- even worse. His priority is raising her after his wife left them without a goodbye; he's not interested in being heartbroken by yet another woman. Rynna Dane is stunned by the beauty of the man across the street, but she can't seem to stay away from him.

They've both been through serious trauma: Rex losing his teenage love who has never been seen again; Rynna running from horrific bullying from her childhood. Honestly, this book turned to be pretty disturbing with the sudden disappearance (murder? kidnapping? death?) of a teenage girl and then the seriously disgusting form of abuse by the "best friend" turned bully of another teenage girl. I'm not usually a fan of the single parent trope, but it worked for Rex.

Tropes: Single Dad, Love Thy Neighbor

I really liked this book. The story was sweet and unexpected. I LOVED Rynna, and fell in love with her strength and grace. Rex wasn’t my favorite main character, but his love was so enduring and well written I had to keep reading.

I do truly wish she wouldn’t leave the first word off of sentences, because it made this book a little frustrating to read.
