I love a good rock star romance and it's been awhile since I read one. This story had some serious loss but also had a soul deep love. Really enjoyed it. 5 stars.

Thank you to Eva for the arc copy in exchange for an honest review! I love being apart of your arc team.

This book started off really slow for me, and I wasn’t able to connect to the characters quickly. Certain phrasings of sentences made it seem a bit off for me, but it really picked up half way through. I started really love the characters, especially some of the band crew and Cassie’s friends.

The dead brother gave me “Raise Your Voice” vibes and I really liked that because it’s one of my favourite movies! I really enjoy Eva’s writing and I’m looking forward to the next book!

Make sure to check the trigger warnings as this book has some hard content.

Sebastian Kane is the lead singer of Enemy Muse. He’s fun and always down to party, and he’s a total playboy. Cassie is an innocent and sweet girl. She doesn’t have the same lifestyle of a rockstar. In fact, she has mostly stayed away from rockstars. However, she has always had a crush on Sebastian. When she goes to one concert after urging from her friend, Merry (who works for Enemy Muse), Sebastian sees her in the crowd.

When they finally meet, the connection is instantaneous, but Sebastian isn’t a relationship guy and Cassie isn’t a one-night stand girl. Cassie wants to live and figures one night won’t matter, right? Well, that one night changed everything for both of them.

Sebastian wants to protect Cassie from all the people and media hounding her after their night together. The thing is, even though Sebastian puts on a happy face, he is drowning. He has a tortured soul and a dark secret. He just doesn’t want to face his past; he can’t handle it, so he loses himself in drugs. With Cassie there, he doesn’t need the drugs as much because he finds happiness in her. But he’s still keeping a big secret from her that threatens to destroy everything he wants with her.

This book had angst, emotion, some spice, and some twists. Some truths were predictable, but others were shocking.

I loved how Sebastian and Cassie were together. They just helped each other without even trying or forcing it. While there was some lack of communication, Cassie was still extremely understanding and patient with Sebastian. Sebastian was so sweet and swoony. I just loved seeing how he was with Cassie and seeing his broken soul being healed. Also, the other members of Enemy Muse are all so interesting, and I can’t wait to read their stories.

Ahh this book! It made me feel so many things, the writing was so beautiful.

“We stand together in the center of this hurricane. And when we finally pull away, and sounds return to the world, what I see in her eyes terrifies me because it fills me up.”

Cassie meets her celebrity crush Sebastian and they spend the night together. A week later, someone posts a video of them online. Sebastian wants to protect Cassie from the madness of the scandal, so he brings her on tour with them. They dance around each other and try to deny the feelings that are building between them as the days and weeks go on, claiming they are “just friends”. Cassie is troubled by her brothers death, and Sebastian is fighting the demons of his struggle with alcohol and drug abuse, as well as the death of his best friend. They are two imperfect people that understand and ease the other’s suffering. Sebastian is deeply flawed and Eva writes him so well, you can feel his pain and his want to be a better man through the words. Cassie knows she needs to be strong on her own and she struggles with that and letting her brother go. The third act breakup in this book was handled so beautifully. You felt their yearning for each other, it was all encompassing when reading. The secondary characters in this book were really well developed, just enough to give us glimpses into each of them, preparing for the rest of the series. I’m so looking forward to reading more of Enemy Muse!

Sebastian and Cassie's story was quite good, I missed reading rockstars, this one is quite good. They both found themselves in a situation they never predicted, but better yet all the emotional rollercoaster side of the story, their pasts, and what they are both dealing with, they start to know each other in more ways and get deeper. Please check trigger warnings before proceeding.
