An Interesting tale which takes the world of Alice in Wonderland and looks at what happened next. Alice's daughter Ivy investigates when rumours spread that the Queen of Hearts has returned.
The story was a little slow start but I loved the wackiness of Wonderland and Ivy is a great character. I would recommend it to fairy tale retelling fans.

I've been curious to see the mechanically minded Forge and their wonderful contraptions since it was alluded to in earlier books in the Kingdom of Fairytales. The Forge was a wonderful mashup of steampunk technology, flamboyant Wonderland style, and urban fantasy - including vampires. It is a kingdom where aesthetics are paramount, creating a veneer of beauty of over a reality that is not nearly so perfect.
Ivy has a mechanical affinity, able to sense if machines are as they should be, and a knack for fixing what is wrong. But what about when things are mysteriously right? Clocks that haven't worked in 18 years suddenly keeping perfect time. And that is just the beginning of strange happenings happenings and mysteries that seem to be popping up all around her.
I loved all the nods to characters, events and settings from the original and the way they were cleverly twisted, even a riddle involving a Raven. Rich introduction to a politically complicated land. As this is book 1 of 4 it ends with a cliff hanger - can't wait to see where it goes next.
