Three star book turned four in eleventh hour

I had been prepared to give this book three stars. There were parts of the book I enjoyed, but I also found parts to be lackluster. Maybe it was the narration, it felt that the danger was always skirted or glossed over. I found myself having a hard time relating to Rita.

That all changed in the last paragraphs of the novel. Finally I understood Rita. I related. Finally there was a rush of emotions in a novel that up until that moment felt clinical and removed from emotion.

Perhaps that was the effect the author was going for.

I have to admit I struggled to get through this book, it was long and really seemed to drag on in places. This historical epic gave insight into the Spanish Civil war, the rising factions in the communist movement, and of course the rise of the Nazis. Through all of this the main character Rita was not especially likable. There were some parts I enjoyed, but overall this was not a book I would highly recommend.

I enjoyed this— It gave another perspective on the war about Jews hiding in plain sight and how they survived WW2.

I listened to it on audio and I’m glad I did because I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much. This is a historical romance and is open door, so have headphones in if you are listening around kiddos

The story line would have been good. The sex ruined it. Also, the portrayal of the Poles during WW II was mean spirited. Could have been a good read.

A look at the Holocaust from a Polish Jewish perspective, The Girl from Krakow tells the story of Rita. The novel was decently written, but the blurb hints towards a huge "secret" that could change the outcome of the war. Then the secret is reveal right away in the first three pages and I really didn't feel like it would change much of anything. It was hinted at a few more times and that was it.

The ending came to an abrupt end that I just felt was not genuine. The novel didn't evoke any emotion in me, as it was written very matter of fact. Overall, decent writing, story potential, lack of character development.

Very interesting story. Covers any years, relationships, and events in WW2. Loved Rita's character.

You need to be well versed in the political theories of all the countries in this book to follow it-poland, russia, germany. The storyline was interesting but could have done without the main character's sexual escapes with homosexuals, and lesbians throughout the book.

I read the whole book thinking it would eventually get better. It didn't.
