The books should be read in order to completely understand and enjoy it, especially since the protagonists are introduced or are part of the supporting cast in the other books.

Salvatore Giuliani is having a bad day. Being King of the Were's it's his duty to make sure they don't go extinct, so he altered four pureblood females DNA, and they where stolen. (we know this from previous books.) Having tracked the to America he found two of then a disappointment, now he may have just found the third, and something more, a dark plot that might completely destroy the weres. But finding Harley might just be more than he bargained for, from the moment he catches sent of her everything else ceases to matter. Now he just has to convince the sexy, but wholly independent woman to be his mate.
Harley, having being raised to distrust all weres, especially their king, isn't so on board with being his mate. So whats a girl to do with a pureblood Were, that sets her every nerve on fire?
I loved Harley I think she was absolutely perfect for Salvatore. To say more would be to give stuff away but I have to say I am confused on some things in the book, revolving around Caine mostly, and hope they will be cleared up in the next book,[b:Devoured by Darkness|7686654|Devoured by Darkness (Guardians of Eternity, #7)|Alexandra Ivy|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1277256773s/7686654.jpg|10342774] , about Tane and Laylah.

I'm gonna be generous and give this one 4 Stars. Ever since Salvatore was introduced I was impatiently waiting to get to his book and praying it didn't let me down as the others had for various reasons. And thank the book gods this one didn't disappoint! Which was a miracle y'all with how much this authors writing choices and her heroines have drove me nuts.
So anyway, I enjoyed it. Salvatore was everything I expected and although we sadly missed a great opportunity to delve deeper into his personality and the pressures he endured as King of the Weres I did like him a whole lot. Even if I'm totally disappointed the author ignored the deliciousness of his past and his role as King. Sad sigh. But I did actually like Harley. Shocking, considering I couldn't stand her other two sisters Darcy and Regan whom we've met so far. Not so surprising was every sister's personality and their approach to their relationship with their new mate are nearly identical in each of their books. So much for individually, huh? But ultimately Harley was sorta different and thankfully infinitely smarter if not just as stubborn but without alot of the stupid her sisters had. And sadly, yes, the relationship runs at warp speed but with this one I didn't particularly mind it or notice too much with everything going on.
Mostly though when reflecting back on these characters they all feel shallow and flat. Sure each guy and girl has unique traits but each book reads very the same and is clearly built off the same formula the author chose. So despite different characters and a different plot each book genuinely feels repetitive to me. Especially when read back to back. It's a decent sized annoyance, I'll admit. Even if they're mildy enjoyable I could likely predict how each heroine will act and the story of their pasts etc.
Truthfully the story plot has been the ultimate draw for me as the romance has left me bored and annoyed by the heroines. The plot especially was fantastic in this book with finding out who/what was draining the werewolves of their ancient power. It was fascinating. So points for that quality storytelling.
Overall it might be my fave book of the series so far. Epilogue was cute too.

Love the action and world Ms. Ivy has created in her Guardians of Eternity series.
Beyond the Darkness is book six in [a:Alexandra Ivy|40881|Alexandra Ivy|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1386088807p2/40881.jpg]'s Guardians of Eternity series. Ms. Ivy does not disappoint she knows how to pull her audience in and keep us entertained, with a strong plot, action, adventure, and just the right amount of romance.
We are taking on a fast paced action packed adventure and learn more about the Weres in this world. By the end I had a better understand of the Weres. It was nice to see Salvatore get his comeuppance, a mate who won't fall at his feet. We see Salvatore change slowly oh so slowly now that he has a mate to protect. Finding Harley opened up new possibilities and also gave a sense of completion to the Were King. As for Harley she is a strong heroine. I liked that she never fully trusted Cain and everything he told her. It was refreshing to see her question her reactions to Salvatore. Makes it more real. I will say I had a hard time feeling the romantic love blooming between Salvatore and Harley, not sure why, might be because I'm not a Salvatore fan, just could not get that connection I usually get between couples.
As for Cain I liked his side story maybe leading up to his own book. Something unexpected happens to him that I am interested in learning more about. We also find the fourth and final missing pureblood sister Were and I did not expect her abilities/gift.
Lastly Levet; I just love him. He always brings humor to the stories. All the male characters hate him, but each female just falls in love with him. He is such a great character and something happens to him in this book…..
The story was great. Ancient evil, unknown foes and possible enemies that could become allies. Their is something stirring in the Guardians of Eternity world and you can just tell everyone is in for a ride. I always enjoy seeing previous characters return. There where some great fight scenes and steamy ones as well. I highly recommend pick up this series and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.

Good book. Salvador is so overbearing in the beginning I wasn't sure I'd like this but he comes around and he grows on you.

So this one just wasn't as good for me as the last few. Salvatore needs redemption because he has treated women like objects. He did this with Styxx's mate Darcy. He wanted to use her as a puppy mill while still keeping his harem. Well here he is struck by the mating bond and suddenly he only wants to secure his mate, Harley. He doesn't ask for any understanding or forgiveness. There is no, let me get rid of my harem, no that just seems to disappear. And Harley, she calls him on certain actions but then seems to conveniently forget them as hormones take over and Salvatore seduces her- like the little head thinking for the big, only with the woman. Why do writers use this ploy for women. Women are constant thinkers and when something isn't right, I think a smart woman confronts the guy, hormones be damn. So these things just made me not like Harley or Salvatore's relationship very much. It killed any real understanding and growth, I don't really think they know each other at all. At the very end, having the bonding moment was good but not enough to save the romance. As a PNR this rates in the 2 1/2 star category, OK to good.
Still the book end up being pretty good because of the werewolf story and Caine leading a lot of Curs that no longer believe in the full blood. Caine believes in a vision that Zombie full blood werewolf helped him to see. Now he thinks he owes fidelity but is realizing that he screwed up. He never took advantage of Harley or try to force mate her (Salvatore), yet he lies to her to manipulate her. Zombie werewolf challenged Salvatore and then made a deal with a demon so he is evil and is on strings of someone else too. Everyone is being manipulated. In the end, Salvatore must confront the Zombie.
We are left thinking that Harley and Salvatore might make a true partnership rather than doormat and mate but still not hot for me in the sheets department. The storyline almost deserves a 4 star but not quite. So 3 1/2 for the plot 2 1/2 for the romance.
Still really liking the series and want to see what happens next with Caine.

Like so many of her other books in this series, this story threw a hook and had me hook-line and sinker! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this from beginning to end. It was captivating, and oh-so-addictive to read, I couldn't put the book down!
