This story has gotten a bit out of hand. The undead are after the unbelievers. The characters we have met and have been following are still trying to find a way to end this nightmarish hell on earth. Only one thing makes sense. That happens at the end of this volume. I am curious enough to know how this mess is resolved, but I'm not expecting much out of the story.

whatever. shit just continues to piss me off.
it took me a whole month to finish this, that's how much i didn't want to read it. but i powered through it in the end, thank fuck. first of all, i can't believe they actually fucking killed sir malcolm, the audacity. and then still had him hang around as a ghost for half of this for no actual reason. second, they had the audacity to kill dorian off as well. he was so separated from the main set of characters for the entirety of the show, and i guess instead of just actually incorporating him into the story like i thought they would, with him being connected to the devil and all that, they just killed him. he's gone. that was it for him. so fucking lame. i understand his reason for wanting to die, it makes sense for his character, but i just really wanted to see that development, instead of it being so rushed. though i'm glad he shared that final moment with lily, that final dance. it was lovely. and speaking of lily, i wanted to see her reunite with ethan, but them immediately being written as romantic threw me off a bit. it's been so long, they're such different characters now, so it just felt really weird, honestly. wish they would build up to that a bit more, if they were going to do it. though i don't know exactly what they're planning to do in that final comic, because the next thing ethan did was jump into bed with the literal devil. which i still don't fucking get, he didn't seem like he was being manipulated, usually people have weird eyes when it's happening, so why the fuck would he sleep with someone literally inhabiting vanessa's body? i know one of his girlfriends came back to life, did he think the latest one did as well? pissed and confused about that. i don't care how much he wanted to sleep with vanessa, that was not her! and i'm so fucking tired of seeing her body being used and violated! leave her alone! if he actually put a fucking baby in her, i will quit. i will not read this shit no more (i will probably power through once again, just to finish it, but it will piss me off beyond belief).
well, at least i got some more jekyll and hyde action! i asked for it! i don't want him to be a character that just fades into the background, but i honestly have no clue what else they can possibly do with him with like a hundred pages left. i guess i will see.
oh, and the creature is still nowhere to be found. so unfortunate. he was one of vanessa's closest friends too.
edit: i should not have read the third fucking volume.

i was so happy to see that this wasn't a retelling of the first three seasons and we will actually get some new story here, just for them to disappoint me once again. and i thought the finale was bad enough.
i'm not saying this was all bad, i actually enjoyed a good majority of this comic. the artstyle is so much better than the one in the prequel too, it doesn't look like they took the pictures of the actors/the stills from the show and just drew over them, but you can still tell exactly who is who. i really enjoyed how everyone and everything was drawn here. and the story was still consistent, even with vanessa gone, everything was still about her and the two brothers battling for the world. the thing that i enjoyed the most was definitely the character interactions, but that also wasn't new, that's what i always end up enjoying the most. i was so happy to see lyle rejoin the rest of the crew, and to have sir malcolm and cat working and fighting side by side once again (i really enjoy their dynamic), and ethan going to therapy and learning how to control his wolf instead of his wolf controlling him. that was all amazing. lily's story, on the other hand, left me feeling a little unsatisfied. i'm not sure how i feel about it exactly. like, her being a soldier of christ? when in the world did that happen? but also, the mother superior seemed to know her by the name of brona, so there's history there. she said she was the one who picked brona off the streets, but i swear, this is my first time hearing any of this. as much as lily talked about her life as brona, i don't remember her EVER mentioning the church. so that was... interesting. we'll see how i feel about it down the road, but for now it just feels so random. like they didn't know what else to do with her character. also, i missed the creature and dorian, but maybe we'll get to see them in the next two volumes. and maybe more of jekyll, he was so underused in the show, and i would hate for him to just fade into the background.
as i was reading the volume, i was so convinced that they wouldn't let lucifer come to the mortal plane, especially if it meant that he would have to possess vanessa's body. i was so sure they wouldn't do that, that they would protect her and let her finally rest in peace. but of course not. her body just has to keep getting violated, even after her death. and that just pissed me the fuck off, i'm not even going to lie. the way her character keeps getting treated is aggravating and just so fucking devastating. i just want her to be left alone, i am so tired.
and not only that, they fucking killed sir malcom as well! ripped his heart right out of his chest, like it was nothing! i knew there were death flags, with the way he was bonding with ethan and actually called him his son, and ethan ended up calling him his father as well (this man and his father figures, i swear), so i had a feeling something would happen. but i didn't think they'd go that far, and that just shocked and pissed me off. was that really necessary? why did i decide to read these damn comics, it's as if the finale of the show wasn't enough for me... i'm not sure what i was expecting.

Yay. S4 of Penny Dreadful... or what it sorta could have been.
I love this show and I am thrilled to see this continuing on. I KNEW the Egyptian storyline had to do with Vanessa and it would segway into The Mummy character.
I love how this show handles all the horror characters and this comic is so far slaying in that aspect.
I want to destroy Dracula.

HOLY SHIT THAT CLIFFHANGER.
I love where this is going. However I feel like this is moving super fast. But then again, it's in comic form... and I am a fast reader.
Nonetheless, I need Vol 3.

I enjoyed this a lot more than the first volume. My only complaint is that we haven't seen the creature yet!
