The Aliens: What if ... series is a comic book series about what would've happened to Carter Burke (played by Paul Reiser) from Aliens (1986) had he survived the movie. It has Paul Reiser written all over it, which means that, of course, Burke is a goofy dad doing Reiserisms constantly. As a fan of Reiser, I think the comics are a lot of laughs.
As a fan of the Carter Burke character (there are three of us and we're all evil people /j), however, I don't know if I quite agree with the characterization of Burke. I always imagined him as more of an evil "corporate whore." A yuppie without a family and kids who just cares about his career. He still has the selfish trait of the yuppie and does evil things, of course, but in this series, he is redeeming himself, and I would've liked less of that.
I also don't know if I like the way it all ended. I'm happy with it ending well, but there is no proper closure as the comic leaves room open for future comics within this universe. Let it end I say, you know. If the series does continue, however, I will read it.
Tldr; As a fan of Paul Reiser, I enjoyed the comic. As a fan of Carter Burke, I think he should've been eviler.
