I put off reading this series for years because I wasn't interested in a Doc Ock book. Big Mistake. This was an original nuanced take on both Spidey and Doctor Octopus. Well worth the read.

We got into Superior Spider-Man in our end of year episode of Comic Book Coffee Break: https://previously-on-x-men.libsyn.com/comic-book-coffee-break-giant-sized-annual-2

Dan Slott pulls off something amazing here. The "body swapping" between heroes and villains has been done before but what he accomplishes here in Superior Spider-Man is a beautiful new twist. Seeing Ock's take on being Spidey is such a treat to witness. The clever and funny dialogue that Slott excels at is still present but the story is unbelievable. So smart and emotional, yet hilarious. Groundbreaking. The art by Ramos, Stegman, and Camuncoli is spectacular. Overall, simply fantastic.

Laugh out loud funny. This was a nice escape for a few hours from a stressful week.

Me ha entusiasmado. Es divertidísimo ver a Otto haciendo de héroe. Por mí, que se quede así.

Doc Octopus swaps brains with Peter Parker and then Doc Octopus dies. Sounds stupid and annoying. But instead it is incredibly creepy and pretty cool. Not a fun read but kind of an awesome one. Much much much better than I expected.

Man I wished I liked this more but it just didn't have the emotional impact as the conclusion of Bendis's Ultimate Spider-Man. That just killed me and emphasized the heroic everyman that Peter Parker is. This is well crafted and well drawn but really drags at times and the shorts in the middle of this collection are a bad tonal match for the rest of the book.
