This book was quite the read. The stories of two women who seemed so starkly different intertwined as the plot unfolded, and the end is a triumph of a twisted sort of justice leaving the reader questioning their own moral compass…do the ends justify the means? My reason for giving three stars is that I can’t in good conscience recommend this book as the themes were graphic and many scenes were heavily sexual in nature. Romance (or lack therof) was not the main theme of this book, but it was difficult to overlook these themes I didn’t expect from such a title or description.

It's a story worth telling, and the Eve chapters were great, but the Charlie chapters really dragged it all down and were often a slog to get through. I think the story could have been told better without most of that.

Based on a real spy ring during WWI and on life shortly after WWII in France, the story shows life of women as spies. There is violence in this story, unbelievable heartache. It is a great story, but not light reading. I listened to the audio version which was excellent.
