That's enough for me I've got a major case of the ick.
📖 Earth has been destroyed, and the remaining humans must compete in a deadly televised dungeon crawler. Carl and Princess Donut, his ex-girlfriend's cat, must navigate this dangerous and absurd gameshow.
✨ Review ✨
This was my first LitRGP and if this is the best the genre has the offer I'm good for not reading anymore of it.
On the surface I get why people enjoy it. To start with it did appear to be a goofy fun time and it's a quick easy read. However it has the humour of a 12 year old boy that's seen one to many Andrew Tate videos and it's just not a vibe for me. I was very quickly over It.
There are gross misogynistic undertones that I tried to find excuses for like maybe it's just the Aliens that are misogynistic. But I can't find excuses when the MMC is misogynistic himself and the narrative just gives me the ick. I mean this starts with Carl moaning about his ex who cheated because you know women are whores, and then the cat gets a The Enchanted Crown of the Sepsis Whore and we bump into a random dead Asian woman with a koi carp tattoo but don't worry her boobs are out for whatever reason. Don't be overly concerned though not all women are whores Matt showcases this by introducing us to a fat, ugly disgusting monster/women who vomits cockroaches and begs for her life in Spanish. Did I mention it also feels low-key racist.
I'm sure Matt has really profound and thought-provoking things to say about all this in-between the Meth taking llamas that spit lava attacks but I have no desire to find out what that is.
On top of that the info-dumping and just the whole structure of this just doesn't work for me.

Definitely the most fun I’ve had reading a book in a long time, so I have to give credit where credit is due.
