Look to be clear this is a light novel. Maybe it doesn't look like but the title of this should be.
How I ended up in the dungeon with nothing but my cat, underwear, and dynamite.
Taking this book as what it is. It's tremendous fun. The action goes fast enough to almost make you forget how horribly bleak the setting is. It's a decent take on the genre and compared to something like solo leveling, omvient readers viewpoint, or even any power scaling dungeon, crawling book it comes off less serious and more lovable.
Now to be clear this book comes with a pretty big list of trigger warnings. If none of those bother you and you want something fun. It's a pretty good read.

I really enjoyed this book. It took me a while to read it, which I totally was not expecting, because it is a book that deserves and almost needs to be binge-read. The story somehow checks every single ‘mood-box’ they offer on StoryGraph besides ‘relaxing’. This story is intense, it’s fun, and it’s deserving of a re-read.

I can’t imagine the kind of dedication it took to have this whole juggle of this game system, inventory, and remembering all the little tid-bitty details, but it had a very cool result. Every so often you would kind of fall into the excitement of the story, and it was so intense when the author had placed Carls dedication to not being broken and loosing himself that felt like being pulled to the surface for a quick breather.

If you like video games or D&D, and if you are a comedy lover or even a mood reader, pick up this book.

It was surprisingly hard for me to get into this at first, but once the action started rolling, I was into it. I'm looking forward to the next installment!

I loved this book. It was honestly so funny and it was refreshing to read. Princess Donut adds to the comedy while still being fun and their relationship is great. I like Mordecai and feel like Odette is up to something. I’m wondering if they’ll run back into Meadow Lark or not. Super intrigued to see what happens with the secret shopping cart. Hopefully a fun new class choice and some skills in book 2!!!

A fun book, especially if you live D&D or video games. I think the story arc is going to at more depth and intrigue as the series continues, but the first book is mostly silly, though there are definitely dark themes. Looking forward to listen to the next!

I loved every second of this book. It made me laugh out loud so many times with its dark, absurd, satirical humor. My favorite bits were when the AI gave info about items and achievements, including the most ridiculous over-the-top pop culture references, memes, and jokes.
Princess Donut is clearly the best character, but Carl is also great and pretty relatable. I'm looking forward to seeing more Mongo in the next book, especially when he starts to get bigger.
The voice acting was also really good, and they conveyed Carl's exasperation (usually with Donut) just perfectly.
I can't wait to continue the series.

That was an absolute blast to read! Donut and Carl are a great combo, I just couldn't put it down.
