This book is not the audience for me. While I would want to try something else from the author, I found the characters to unlikable to find anyone to latch on to in the tense turning plod of the plot. I feel the mystery is interesting in concept, but feels like it should be character driven versus a plot b of the story. The writing is fun, and I did the audiobook version enjoyed the narrator.

This story of a sister's mysterious disappearance/apparent death speaks to a lot of family trauma, distrust and ultimately hurt. There's a solid mystery moving the reader along while the main character sorts through her complicated emotions, and it is gripping. That said, it doesn't feel spoiler-y to say the character's weight was a pretty consistent topic, whether in self-deprecation or comments from other characters. And to me, there was no real reason for it, plot-wise. It just felt like the author might have a complex, and that was sad to me.
