Im interested to read what I can on Warhol. It all began tho when I lived in NYC during his "era". It was even then and it was in the 60s the group that followed him and got their fame from him was unlike anyone else. So Also now in San Francisco there is a large Warhol exhibit that came here from Whitney in NYC. I have seen the exhibit (4 floors) and was one of the few people in their theatre 4 different times to watch his Films. these are the pre Chelsea Girls films most of them silent and included the first of Warhol talkies Harlot. To say these films are bizarre doesnt begin to speak of them...
anyway I bought this book Stargazer written in 1973 and I think he knew Warhol. He is a film expert and he did any thing here with the Warhol films. He was not able to see all of the films like Haircut and Horse. He is very smart and articulate and for me his writing is just an impediment. When he wants to say something there are a long string of unnecessary long words to say anything. So I have to keep getting past the excessive verbiage to know what is being said really.
What I really liked about this compared to another book I read on Warhol films from 70s by Peter Gilad who definitely was in Warhol's circle is that Koch was objective about what Warhol did as a film maker.
For me I am still reading and taking it all in.
