Enthralling, a book to get lost in and find so much meaning

This is easily my favorite read of 2024 and the book I ended it on.

Emily St. John Mandel knocks this book out of the park. The intricate way she weaves things back and forth throughout this book and then has it end where every single little thing is neatly wrapped up is phenomenal.

I think this book may have changed how I read and write. Her story telling is excellent, her prose is lyrical and often humerous in the realness of it all.

If you're coming from the Mini Series, please put everything you know about the series out of your head.

It’s strange to read this in 2024, while a pandemic continues to kill and disable people, while the world moves on and ignores it. Strange to read it on the brink of possibly another pandemic. Strange to think that we’re only ever one small misstep away from a world like the one in this book. I loved the story, the writing style, and the characters. But mostly I loved the reflection on what it means to survive, and how we can’t do it alone. I can’t wait to watch the show.
