There were constant infodumps as worldbuilding, and I didn't like the style.

I really really wish that authors (especially KU authors) would put a note in the front of book like this simply saying, "This is the first book of a spin-off of a spin-off series. Book x is where you should start with this book universe." Despite being thrown into a well-established universe with no explanation, I enjoyed this book. I probably would have enjoyed it better if I had read the previous series this one is a spin-off of but what can you do. I'm intrigued enough to back up and read the previous series.
