The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman
4.0
Another fun one. In The Bullet That Missed, Elizabeth reconnects with a former KGB associate and makes the acquaintance of an enterprising money launderer. Simultaneously, our Thursday Murder Club is deep into a 10 year-old murder investigation of an up-and-coming journalist and tv reporter. Ultimately, the two storylines cross, making for the integration of a few contemporary elements into these septuagenarians’ lives— of course, we’re talking social media and cryptocurrency.
As always, it’s the repartee and personalities of our foursome that make the story so enjoyable. Ron is lowering a few of his walls, Ibrahim is getting back into the swing of things, Joyce is finding her own in her intellect, and Elizabeth is letting down her guard a tad, for better or for worse.
We definitely have hints that some hard truths will rear their heads in the next installment, so much of the lighter fare and wit in this third novel were a nice respite for what I assume is to come.
