Didn't Nobody Give a Shit What Happened to Carlotta by James Hannaham
Did not finish book.
2.0
I tried. I heard good things about this book on a podcast and thought to give it a try but this just dragged on. Granted, that’s a choice and a style, but not for me. The run on sentences confused me and I don’t feel like it got to the crux of how shocking and weird it is to come out into a world completely changed. There’s some weird stuff that happens when she’s out on the town and it’s bizarre (especially the Beamer incident). A lot of it is expositional and I just couldn’t go on any more. It seemed to be stuck in place. The random fat-shaming of a character in deep depression did not help.
I don’t think the book, as far as I read, explored its central conceit well. Everything was just too loud and shouts and no conversation seemed to go anywhere. Just incident after incident.
Perhaps I wasn’t in the right head space to read this. The premise is very interesting, I just don’t think this style was for me.
