This book hurt me emotionally, physically, mentally, it caused me to cry at a book more than I have in a long time and I thank it for the privilege. The Only Light Left Burning builds so much on All That’s Left in The World and although the first book ended so sweetly, I don’t think you could have the first without its sequel. The development of Andrew and Jamison as character was done so incredibly well and one of the best aspects of Erik J. Brown’s writing is the fact that he allows these characters to make mistakes and learn and grow but he always manages to give them the right ending, and this to me was the perfect ending for Andrew and Jamison. This book was honestly brutal from start to finish, if you said to me this book was used by the CIA to cause gays to be emotionally distressed I’d fully believe you. Whilst The Only Light Left Burning was not the easiest read (because of how much it destroyed emotionally) it’s easily one of my favourite reads of this year so far and as a massive fan of All That’s Left in The World, I am very happy to say that this was not the sequel I wanted but the sequel I needed!
