An extraordinary novel that I think deserves its "classic" status. The writing was full of symbolism and I found myself pausing my reading to ponder certain sentences. I particularly loved the first part that had "I capture the castle" vibes, but then things take a dramatic turn.

I will say that the WWII part dragged on too long for my taste. Aside from that, the character development was superb and I loved how the theme of guilt and "atonement was handled. I have a few spoilery thoughts concerning the topic of sexual abuse (TW for that) if you want to chat about it!
