The Anatomy of Fascism by Robert O. Paxton
3.0
Students of history and politics and keen observers of modern political trends should strongly consider reading this book.
If you find yourself concerned about the proliferation of strongmen in politics of the modern world. If you see the clashes between "Antifa" and "The Proud Boys" and others like them as a throwback to something you learned in history class. If you are concerned to see the US Capitol stormed and the American Flag torn down and replaced with a Trump flag. If you have had people tell you "Its not fascism because..." or "calling people Nazis is hyperbole and cant apply because..." and you wonder how much the history aligns.
If any of these is true and you're ready to buckle in for a scholarly and detailed anatomy lesson of the most high profile fascisms: Italy and Germany, but the lesser knows in Hungary and unsuccessful ones in Britain, France, the US, and how these differ from more traditional military dictatorships like Chile etc. This book is for you.
3 Star reviews mean this was a solid book. I probably won’t read it again but I could. I do recommend it to people interested in this sort of topic. No argument from me if you love this book.
