I found this book to be fairly entertaining. It was a long book but the advantages of that were giving the book time to settle in and for certain conclusions and events to not feel forced. My qualms were moreso about the character being white passing and the perspective/opinions shared there. I did appreciate the story explored the experience of passing for white and the impact, how that influences behavior especially as a child. As someone who is biracial and not yt passing, it was frustrating that the character never reckons with her relationship to whiteness as a lived and embodied experience. Primarily she distances herself from it, when it’s not disadvantageous, because of her ethnicity.
