Without a Trace by Nora Roberts

3.0

Following a fight with his father, Frank, Trace O'Hurley leaves his family for parts unknown. Trace's occupation and whereabouts are unknown to his family. His life is a big mystery for years, for good reason. Trace is an ISS agent who is coming off of 9 months of deep cover. He is sitting in a bar drinking to the memory of his late friend and co-agent Charlie when Dr. Gillian Fitzpatrick walks through the door with a note from Charlie telling Trace to help the lady out. Gillian’s brother Flynn and 6 year old niece, Caitlin, have been kidnapped by a terrorist organization called Hammer. Gillian, Flynn, and their father have all been working on a project having to do with nuclear technology. Flynn is being forced to work on the project but the final pieces of the puzzle are contained in the notes only in Gillian’s head. Gillian and Trace team up to track down where Flynn and Caitlin are being held on a journey that takes them from Mexico to Chicago to Morocco. Gillian sees the many different personas that Trace wears to make his underworld connections but when Gillian is taken by the leader of Hammer, it's a race against time to rescue Gillian and maybe have a hope of repairing his relationship with his family. This book has action, adventure, and ties up the four stories in the O'Hurley books well.
