When Clouds Touch Us by Thanhhà Lại

4.0

It's impossible not to crave a sequel after reading Inside Out and Back Again. The continuing story of setbacks and successes demonstrates how life does not always move in a straight line. We get to see the older brothers move into adult lives of their own.

Navigating Texas suburbia has lower stakes than fleeing Saigon, so the narrative is not quite as gripping as its predecessor. You can feel the absence of the lush Vietnamese landscape descriptions.
