Diving for Pearls, Part 1 by Melissa Storm
5.0
Diving for Pearls is a short story about love, loss, and redemption.
Elizabeth and her husband Theo are preparing for a baby. Unfortunately, Elizabeth is suffering from eclampsia. A trip to the hospital, a C-section, and a devastating loss for Theo. His wife is gone from this world.
Elizabeth discovers she's gone to Heaven. Meeting Peter at the Heavenly gates, she learns she's going to become a Protector. A guardian angel to her daughter. Saddened that she won't ever be able to hold her baby, but excited about being able to watch over her, Elizabeth returns to Earth, prepared to do whatever it takes to make sure her daughter lives her life to the fullest so they can one day be reunited in Heaven.
Will she be able to fulfill her duties as an angel? You'll just have to read the stories and find out!
For me, this was probably one of the saddest things I've read in a long time. I pretty much cried from right before the halfway point to the end of the book. Of course, I can always blame it on being a new mom for the second time, but... my son is almost 4 months old and I think the crazy emotional side of me has been calmed. But yeah, it's really an emotional story that will bring tears to your eyes.
I'm definitely looking forward to the next part in the series. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for both Elizabeth and Daisy.
A very well-deserved five stars to this short story.
