I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou

5.0

I started reading this book in 8th grade but it's slow pace lost me. Now, as an adult I see that "slow pace" as meter. Angelou's words are poetic, crafted and intentional. She paints each chapter in your mind's eye. She uses beautiful (if archaic) words that somehow seem perfect against the backdrop.

This book is what writers should aspire to. It will enrobe you and sink into the cracks of your mind.
It's a pity I waited so long to finish this book but the added years gave me an appreciation I wouldn't have had at 13.
