I've loved this book since I was a kid, and it still holds up when I re-read it now. Westall's writing has always stood out to me, and this is my favorite of his books.
A few warnings for those considering reading it: If you need to like the characters to enjoy a story, this might not be for you. Every character in this book is flawed, including the main character/ narrator. Also, if you prefer characters who align with modern sensibilities, this one may not suit you (I would however encourage you to get outside your comfort zone).
