I was a huge fan of The Autists last year and was waiting for The Autists Guide to the Galaxy. Overall, I think this book will really appeal to autists, as it is very wry and funny.
However, I found it occasionally quite challenging. As a late diagnosed neurodivergent, who has learned to mask quite successfully, this did occasionally feel like being called out. Thus the challenge inherent in this book lowered my enjoyment a little. Where The Autists felt like a warm hug (when you want one) and a relief at not actually being alone or a weirdo, The Autists Guide to the Galaxy felt like a mirror held up to show me how strongly I still mask and made me uncomfortable with myself.
I feel like, perhaps, in a few more years, when I have had the time and space to really unmask and find out who I am as a neurodivergent woman, I will be able to return to this and really engage with the humour and truth in it.
