Zone One by Colson Whitehead

dark tense slow-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? Plot
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated
Honestly I enjoyed listening to this book even though I don't think there is that much about this that is interesting. .
the character espouses some ecofascist views about humans being a pestilence and the world being saved without them as well as talking about survival of the strongest and overpopulation.
There wasn't a lot of action in this tbh. But scenes that I thought were actually good involved
when the buddy of his messes with a sleeper zombie and gets got (if anyone deserved it, it was him for that behavior), the woman that he connected with disappearing, and his experience at that cabin that gets surrounded and they kind of loses it.

I did like the mix of time lines. I also thought the ending was interesting
that they didn't stand a chance and the "recovery" period was crumbling.

Wouldn't read again
