Born, Darkly by Trisha Wolfe

5.0

"To break a person of their will, you have to break their hold on life itself."

I don't know what I just read, but I loved it! Born, darkly was hauntingly engaging, and I could not put the book down! This is not your ordinary book which makes it all the more amazing! The psychology/ true crime buff in me loves every dark and twisted chapter of this book. I saw this recommended on Booktok. Before I read this book, I'm not going to lie; I was like, this is giving me Harley Quinn and Joker vibes with a horror movie twist!

"When I look into his eyes, I see myself. Not a reflection of the woman—but the hollow echo of my blood-stained soul."

Dr. London Noble is a criminal psychiatrist, and she has just taken on this new patient Grayson Sullivan. He is a serial killer waiting for trial, and Dr. Noble assesses him. She thinks she has it all under control because she's a professional and the top of her field, but little does Dr. Noble know Grayson has ulterior motives. She is transfixed by Grayson, seduced by him and his manipulative ways, and falls for him. Dr. Noble's past abuse and loss are revealed in a complex way by Grayson. In some ways, she is twisted, dark, and broken, just like Grayson, and she starts to realize it after he breaks out of prison and holds her captive.

"I hate you," I whisper. "You hate everything but me."

This book ends on a cliffhanger, and I cannot wait to see how the story ends. Born, Darkly is my first book by Trisha Wolfe, and I recommend this book to anyone who loves dark romance with a thrilling twist. I will most definitely read more books by this author in the future.
