THE SIRENS completely blew me away. I was transfixed from the first page, and I cannot stop thinking about it. I am not always a fan of multiple timelines, but boy does Emilia Hart pull it off flawlessly. Hart takes the idea of mermaids and turns it on its head with such aplomb! 

In 1800, we follow twin sisters Mary and Eliza who have been sent on a convict ship to Australia. Their journey is terrifying and tumultuous, especially given the way their bodies have started to change in the constant damp. 

In 2019, Lucy awakes from a dangerous sleepwalking episode and has to flee to her somewhat-estranged sister's house on the Australian coast. Jess has also had a history of sleepwalking, and Lucy doesn't know where else to turn. When she arrives however, Jess is nowhere to be found. Lucy is desperate for answers about the vivid dreams she's been having of two Irish twins on a ship--twins she sees reflected in Jess's paintings throughout her house. 

This book is full of mystery, awe, and wonder, and every bit of it delighted me. If you like women giving birth in caves, women seeking revenge, and women revealing dark secrets, this book is for you.
