The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates

challenging informative inspiring reflective slow-paced

5.0

I finished this on the eve of the ceasefire. I am ashamed at how little I have understood about Palestine, and how overwhelming I have found the press coverage of the war in the last 14ish months - it felt too big, too hard, to access. The crux of this book is about writing, and storytellers, and how we create narratives, and the final essay (the one that has gotten the most attention) brings these all together beautifully. Thoughtful and considered, as Coates’ writing always is.
