The word that first comes to mind when I think about this book is “sweeping.” It is so lush and expansive, but it also gets pretty deep with all of the characters. I love a book with multiple, intertwined narratives and seeing the way everything meshes together. Unfortunately, I do think the resolution of the central conflict was anticlimactic and the way everything ended was just a bit too perfunctory for my liking. Also super glad I didn’t read this right when the pandemic was really happening or I think I would’ve had a mental breakdown.
Graphic: Death and Terminal illness
Minor: Rape
