one of the few books i've read where the pov shifting is a) effective as a storytelling device, b) engaging enough that i didn't skip a single pov because they were all interesting to me, and c) unique to each character in its own way. this is a difficult thing to pull off considering writers tend to have a specific voice and are generally hard-pressed to find ways to make a few, let alone 5 or 6 character's voices sound different. i especially liked how dene used headier and more specific language than most of the other characters. i found that some of the narratives kind of fell off towards the end, i would have liked to hear more about dene and blue. i think there's a lot to unpack here but the writing was excellent and evocative even before the commentary on culture & belonging.
