Daughter of Chaos was an interesting read and I did like a lot of the author's spins on some of the myths about the Grecian Gods and Titans.

There are some things that occur in the story that did leave me wondering what was happening especially with Webb describing Athens as having Apollo as the patron saint of the city, I had to go and re-read parts of the book to double check I hadn't misread anything because it simply doesn't make sense to alter such an acknowledged part of Greek Mythology. There are attempts to rectify this falsehood but it doesn't work and I forced myself to overlook it in hopes it was a mistake etcetera. I'm also uncertain as to why Naxos, where our main character, Danae lives, has so much focus on Demeter when it's an island that in mythology is much loved by Dionysius and he's still  celebrated on the island to this day. I understand why in the story that so much occurs at the beginning but perhaps another island may have made more sense for the location for the beginning of the story?

There are other things that will perhaps infuriate those who love the mythology and lore of Ancient Greece - and for me, there was somewhat of a repetition of ‘this isn't a retelling, this is based around the myths to a small degree.’ By doing this, I could focus on the story itself and separate what I know and what I want to read..

The concept of a someone being seen as one to take away the power of the Twelve is an interesting one; and I was intrigued to see how Danae would be able to do this. With this only being book one in The Dark Pantheon series we don't get any true answers of how the Pantheon will be brought down by her so I'm curious to see if and how they may fall. I think I'd have liked to see more insight from the Gods (and perhaps more demigods) as Dannae journeyed through Greece.

I did love the arrival of some familiar faces, such as Jason, Atalanta and Heracles. Webb's writing of Jason in particular made me laugh a few times as I've always seen him as a child playing dress up in an adult's armour and that he's petulant when things don't go his way.

I'm really hoping to see more of the fierce Alatanta in the sequel. What we do have in Daughter of Chaos shows her as an incredible archer and warrior who's loyal to Heracles. There's so much that can be done with someone like this so it will be interesting to see her hopefully grow in book two. I can't imagine some of what occurs in Daughter of Chaos meaning she disappears. Heracles too is an important character in this book, and I was intrigued by the dynamic between Dannae and him, especially when there's some romantic entanglements between the two. I again, feel like that as he's integral to part of the story that he could have been used more.

As are others- but I'm not giving spoilers, I just think this could have been so much more if these characters were used better.

Daughter of Chaos is a good story, Ancient Greece is beautifully described at times, and there's so much potential with this series and whilst yes? I am infuriated by elements of mythology and history being messed with unnecessarily? I just hope the author doesn't get things wrong again, and answers a fair amount of the questions left open at the end of this book.
