This book was so good, so delicious that I could barely read it. Knowing that it would end was one torture, grappling with the fact that I was not “stuck” on a food and wine tour of Europe with the love of my life I hadn’t seen in four years?? Absolutely unbearable.
This book truly had it all- beautiful prose, juicy plot, sexy main characters, electric chemistry, and a truly satisfying ending.
This is McQuiston’s horniest work yet (which is, you know, really saying something).
Pining, yearning, perishing- the gang is allllll here.
Favorite quotes include:
“Based on how he moved through the world, I’d always suspected he was either fruity or engaged in some kind of spiritual romance with the cosmic essence of the earth for which there were no human words” (100).
“… I’ve been so close to her, and everything has been so beautiful, and I’ve swallowed so many words already, I’ve made a meal of my heart” (214).
“There is perhaps nothing as true, as enduring, as fitting a tribute to the renaissance as being so horny you could die on the streets of Florence” (239).
“Kiss me, haunt me, handle me recklessly” (266).
“They’re a catastrophe like an earthquake is a catastrophe, an act of the gods. They’re the crumbling of an empire and the simple, immediate crash of glass on the floor for good luck” (291).
“They showed me the galaxy, then made me feel it” (358).
